There certainly is not a shortage of weight loss plans and programs out there. A quick search will give you thousands of results with more options than you could possibly try.
Most of them have a few things in common. They promise to be an easy approach that will give you quick results. They sell themselves like a magic pill that is the answer to all of your weight loss woes.
However, what they don’t tell you is that quick fixes don’t work. They also don’t tell you that their “easy” approach may seem doable on paper but may include drastically cutting your daily intake to an unhealthy level, eliminating entire food groups from your diet, or some other equally unsustainable approach.
This world does not need more rigid diets or quick fixes. This world needs more healthy, gradual, sustainable weight loss programs.
Now we also know that as intuitive eating, which we love, gains popularity, saying that you want to lose weight is becoming a little more taboo to some.
While we agree that not everyone wants to or needs to lose weight to live a healthy life, we also acknowledge that for some people, losing weight can improve their health, their self-esteem, and their quality of life.
We aren’t here to tell you that you should or shouldn’t want to lose weight. Instead, we are here to tell you that you shouldn’t try another crazy fad diet ever again.
Here at OnPoint Nutrition, our team of dietitians and nutritionists has helped thousands of people, just like you achieve their goals. We’ve helped people not only lose weight, but maintain their weight loss. We’ve also helped people achieve food freedom through intuitive eating.
In this article, we’ll discuss our stance on weight loss, why we feel the way we do, and how we can help you achieve your goals, whether they include losing weight or not.
OnPoint Nutrition’s Stance on Weight Loss
While we already started to dive into this, let’s dive a little deeper.
Here at OnPoint Nutrition, we don’t believe there is anything wrong with wanting to lose weight. However, we also don’t believe you need to want to lose weight.
Plenty of our clients want to lose weight and our team is here to help them do so. On the flip side, plenty of our clients have other goals they are working toward and never discuss their weight with their nutrition coach.
We believe that you should have the freedom and the autonomy to decide what your goals are.
We will provide a caveat here and say that if we believe that losing weight would not be healthy for you, physically or mentally, perhaps because you are struggling with disordered eating or an eating disorder, we will not support this particular goal.
Our main goal is for our clients to do what feels best for them, optimizes their health, and maximizes their confidence in themselves.
Why We Feel This Way About Weight Loss
We see both sides of things.
We see the side where many people are uncomfortable with the shape and size of their bodies. They desperately want to lose weight so they can feel better, improve their health, and boost their self-esteem.
We also see the side where weight loss is pushed upon us: diet advertisements are everywhere, the ideal body type is unachievable for the majority, and being thin is viewed as the hallmark of willpower and self-control.
We know that everyone is different, which means we can all have different goals and take different paths to reach them.
Our approach is not one-size-fits-all. Instead, we take an individualized approach to help you achieve the goals you set for yourself and the goals that feel valuable to you.
How OnPoint Nutrition Can Help You Achieve Your Goals
As we said, your goals are up to you. You set the course for your health journey, and we help you along that journey. Our job is to help you achieve your goals.
If you want to lose weight we will guide you through our “all foods fit in moderation” mindset.
We will help you learn about important topics like nutrition, food groups, meal planning and prep, exercise, and more to help you achieve your weight goal.
If you want to forget about weight and find food freedom we will guide you through the intuitive eating process. We will help you learn to release your ties to the scale, remove food rules, listen to your body, and eat in the way that feels best to you personally.
If Your Goal is Weight Loss
Let’s take a look at our approach to weight loss.
Unlike many weight loss programs, we never count calories or ask you to eliminate specific foods or food groups. Instead, we encourage eating real food from all food groups in portions that work for you and your body.
Your dietitian or nutritionist will help you determine the proper amount of food and your targets from each food group, that aligns with your daily needs and your goals.
You and your Nutrition Coach will work together to adjust both the quality and the quantity of the food you are eating to put you on track to lose weight.
Our focus is sustainability, so you can not only lose weight, but also maintain your weight loss and fuel your body with the nutrients it needs–for the rest of your life.
If Your Goal is Food Freedom
Let’s look at our approach to food freedom.
When we work with clients on food freedom and intuitive eating we want to help you improve your relationship with food and work with your body.
We achieve these goals by discussing intuitive eating principles including honoring your hunger, feeling your fullness, and respecting your body. We also incorporate gentle nutrition so you can improve your eating choices for a purpose other than just losing weight.
Our focus is for you to tune back into your body and eat based on your needs and wants, not based on external influences.

Liz has been reading nutrition labels since she learned how to read. Growing up with severe peanut and tree nut allergies she learned that it’s important to know what you are putting into your body. She made her first big lifestyle change as a freshman in high school, when she decided to become a vegetarian. However, it wasn’t until she took a food class in Italy as part of a study abroad program in college that it clicked in her mind that she wanted to make food and nutrition her career. Liz graduated from Penn State University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition, as well as a bachelor's degree in Marketing. She completed her dietetic internship with Aramark in Philadelphia, and her master's degree at Northeastern University shortly after.
